Abstract submission guidelines
We have prepared guidelines to assist you with preparing your abstract for the ASM.
It is important to read these carefully when preparing your submission.

Abstract submission guidelines
- Only abstracts submitted in English will be reviewed
- Abstracts must contain original scientific data collected by the author(s).
- Abstracts are to be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx)
- Abstract submissions must comply with the Wiley-Blackwell Abstract Guidelines
Authors must follow the formatting guidelines below. An abstract template is available, and should be used as a guide.
- Word count: maximum 250 words (excluding title, authors and affiliations)
- Font: Times New Roman, 12 points, single-spaced, text left and right justified.
- Abbreviations: Use standard abbreviations only. Within the body of the abstract, when using abbreviations, spell out the name in full at the first mention and follow with the abbreviation in parenthesis. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the name is outlined in the body of the abstract in full. Capitalise the first letter of trade names.
- Grammar: The author(s) is responsible for ensuring their text does not contain any typos or grammatical errors. The Program Committee will not be responsible for any errors published.
- Abstracts should comprise of the following elements, with each beginning a new paragraph:
- Background
- Objectives
- Method
- Results
- Conclusion
- Authors: A maximum of six presenting authors are permitted for each abstract.
- References: Should follow the Vancouver system.
- Tables and Figures: A maximum of 2 tables are allowed per component, with an individual maximum of ten columns and ten rows per table.

Presentation types
Abstracts can be submitted for either oral or poster presentations.
The ASM Working Group and ACEM Research Committee reserves the right to determine whether a submission is accepted as an oral or a poster and its decision is final.
Oral presentations
- All oral presentations will be 10 minutes in duration plus 5 minutes discussion.
- Oral presenters will be asked to present orally with a PowerPoint presentation.
Poster presentations
- Poster presentations will be asked to present a traditional physical poster display.
- Poster presenters will be asked to present a visual representation of their work.
- To be considered for the Best Poster award, a digital poster must be submitted so it can be added to the Meeting app for adjudications.
*Abstracts may be scheduled for presentation on any day during the Meeting.
Abstract awards
In 2025, there will be several awards that submitters can apply for including:
- Best paper by a Trainee
- Best paper by a Fellow
- Best Poster award
- PREDICT award in Paediatric Emergency Medicine
- ECI award
- Emergency Medicine Foundation Award

Trainee Research Project
Trainees may choose to present their Training Research Project (TRP) in line with the College requirements.
Applications will need to register for the Meeting and follow the abstract submission process.
Trainees who choose to complete the Trainee Research Project by presenting a paper, either orally or by way of poster, are required to submit two separate applications:
Submit an abstract to the ASM via the Meeting abstract submission process; and
Apply directly to the College. More information about the TRP and the appropriate application form can be found on the ACEM website.
Abstract review
All submitted abstracts will undergo a peer review (blind review) process by the ASM Working Group and ACEM Research Committee.
Incomplete abstracts, abstracts not written in English or abstracts not following the above guidelines/template cannot be processed and will not be reviewed.
No revisions are possible after the submission deadline – no exceptions.
Terms and conditions
All abstract submitters are required to agree to the below terms and conditions prior to submitting their work.
- All authors/affiliations from my abstract document have been removed
- Submitting author hereby commits with the present data protection and privacy policy
- All abstracts must be prepared according to the guidelines provided
- All accepted presenting authors must register and pay to attend the ASM 2025
- All abstracts will be published in the EMA abstract supplement (unless opted out during the submission process)
- If unable to present the abstract, the submitter will promptly withdraw submission, or elect another presenting author

Q: How do I submit?
A: All abstract submissions are required to be completed online. To submit your abstract, click the submit abstract button above. Please ensure you read the guidelines on this page carefully prior to submission as there is important information included. Please note, emailed submissions will not be accepted.
Q: What type of presentations are available?
A: Oral presentations and poster presentations. Further details included above.
Q: Can I use QR codes in my abstract submission?
A: No, QR codes are not permitted in submissions. However, they may be used in presentations.
Q: Can funding or disclaimer statements be included?
A: Yes, if applicable. They should be placed at the bottom of the abstract and are not included in the word count.
Q: When will ASM registration open?
A: It is anticipated that registration will open in April 2025. Please ensure that you regularly check the ASM website for updates.
Q: When will authors be notified of submission acceptance or otherwise?
A: Authors will be notified of the outcome of their submission via email on 22 August 2025.
Q: Are presenters required to register for the ASM?
A: Yes, as a presenter you are required to register and pay to attend the ASM. Any presenters not registered for the ASM by 23 September 2025 will be withdrawn from the program.
Q: What are the key dates that I need to be aware of?
